The MULTIDIODE PL3D™ is an innovative surgical laser system specially designed and optimized for minimally invasive Discectomy treatment.
Herniated intervertebral discs are effectively treated by reduction of intradiscal pressure through laser energy.

The MULTIDIODE PL3D™surgical laser works with optimal wavelength for disc decompression:
980 nm is 5 times more absorbent in water than 810nm
980 nm is 2 times more absorbent in water than 1.064nm
This means that less laser energy is required. As a result there is less heat diffusion in adjacent tissue and no undesirable side effects.
Safe and user-friendly
- Ergonomic handpiece, with a fiber blockage mechanism and built-in smoke evacuation to eliminate intra-discal pressure produced by disc vaporization (worldwide patented)
- External power meter to verify the real fiber output just before introducing the fiber into the needle
- Exclusive system to maintain fiber sterile during power test
- User-friendly surgical laser software
- Statistical control: number of pulses, total applied energy and emission time
Highest patient comfort
- Minimally invasive
- Outpatient procedure
- Performed under local anesthesia
- No periradicular scarring or spinal instability
- Reduced rehabilitation time
- Does not preclude open surgery if needed
- Cost-effective does not preclude open surgery
MULTIDIOSE PL3D SURGICAL LASER APPLICATIONS
- Disc decompression
INTERmedic’s outstanding PL3D treatment technique for disc decompression
The PL3D Discectomy treatment
The PL3D surgical laser procedure reduces intra-discal pressure with laser energy in cases of herniated intervertebral discs. A laser fiber, introduced through a 22 gauge needle, is inserted into the nucleus polposus under local anesthesia and fluoroscopic monitoring. The vaporization of only a small part of the nucleus results in an immediate decrease of the intra-discal pressure. As a consequence the herniation moves apart from the root of the nerve.
Minimized risks or side effects
The gas formed, during laser vaporization, is removed with the help of a specially developed handpiece incorporating a smoke evacuation system. Thus, any post-operative muscle spasms are reduced to a minimum.
As the PL3D technique is applied under local anesthesia, even patients with high surgical risks - e.g. cardiopulmonary decompensation, renal, hepatic, or major organ failure - can be safely treated.
The great advantages of the PL3D surgical laser method:
- Minimally invasive
- Outpatient procedure
- Performed under local anesthesia
- No periradicular scarring or spinal instability
- Reduced rehabilitation time
- Does not preclude open surgery if needed
- Cost-effective
The PL3D™ disc decompression is performed with MULTIDIODE PL3D™.
